Expedite Fees – What are you willing to pay to have your packaging line running?

So, I read this on a competitor’s email today – “Only emergency orders will ship during the holiday shutdown and will incur a $500.00 handling fee in addition to the next flight out fee.”

I thought to myself, “How absurd to do that to a customer when everyone is already stretched to the max on their budgets!” AND, they are closed over a week during the Christmas holidays. That is some way to provide great customer service! We will be closed 12/26 and 12/29, 12/30 & 1/2. We will NOT charge a $500 expedite fee! Slautterback Melters – Are you prepared to be without your melter?

If you are one of those using the Slautterback Melters…..beware! Nordson is obsoleting all the parts for those melters. Don’t be one of those caught unprepared. Nordson purchased Slautterback several years ago and slowly started phasing the parts out of circulation. Now, they are obsoleting the parts completely. Why have your old Nordson and Slautterback Melters Refurbished?

Is your old Nordson or Slautterback Melter on its last leg? Maybe the the melter is full of char. Maybe your melter’s pump is not working at its full capacity? Have you considered having your old Hot Melt Units rebuilt? Sending your old hot melt glue melters in for refurbishment will save you valuable dollars. Keystone Industries provides the following with refurbished Nordson and Slautterback Melters.

6 month or 2000 hour (whichever occurs first) warranty on all mechanical parts
New coating on the glue pot
Totally rebuilt pump
New RTD/Therm
Totally rebuilt manifold
All new orings/seals
New Filter
New insulation
New paint

All refurbished melters are tested with adhesive for quality purposes.

Importance of Procedures for Preventative Maintenance

How many times has your packaging line been down for hours due to an issue that could have been prevented? How much money was lost during that downtime versus the cost of the part needed to repair the cause? Preventative Maintenance procedures on packaging lines is nothing to sneeze at. The cost savings by being proactive can be enormous. Think of the domino effect that can happen from a line being down for hours.

$$ lost on product not produced
$$ lost on product trashed
$$ line operators lose due to being sent home
$$ lost by the delivery trucks that are held up to deliver your product
$$ lost by retail stores because they do not have enough of your product
$$ lost by consumer buying someone else’s product

Rid Char – Follow these Simple Instructions

: Red Baron Cleaner

RED BARON TANK CLEANER – Tank Flushing Instructions for your Nordson, Slautterback, ITW or Melton Melter.

Choice of 3 sizes:

RB-1: 1 gallon container

RB-5: 5 gallon container (as shown)

RB-55: 55 gallon drum

Are your nozzles plugging frequently and cauing you downtime? The solution is as simple as flushing your glue melter. Preventative maintenance of your melter is a proactive way to reduce downtime and increase the life of your parts and the melter. Always replace the tank filter and inline filters after flushing the melter. Follow the instruction below to properly flush the melt unit.

Safety Instructions: WEAR ALL APPROPRIATE SAFETY GEAR (long sleeves, gloves, safety glasses)

1. Drain glue unit of all adhesive.

2. Turn off pump pressure on glue unit.

3. Relieve the glue pressure from the glue unit.

4. Take the applicator head(s) off of the hose(s).

5. Pour the Red Baron in the glue pot up to the fill line. Do not overfill.

6. Turn pump pressure on.

7. Pump adhesive out of hose(s) until Red Baron appears.

8. You may keep hose on to clean hose(s) and just re-circulate into the glue tank.

9. Gently scrape (using high temperature plastic or wooden tool – do not use metal –this may damage the Teflon coating)

10. Run with either old tank filter in or out. (if running with no tank filter, be sure to have a spare o-ring).

11. Drain all the cleaner. If the char still drains from the manifold/tank, repeat steps 5 through 11 until there is no char.

12. After tank is clean and all cleaner is drained, install a new tank filter. Take this opportunity to change any inline filters between the hoses and heads and change any old nozzle tips.

13. Fill tank with new adhesive and purge hose(s) and head(s) until clean adhesive appears.
